Particles and Holes

particles_and_holes

Took this in the Hollywood farmer’s market a couple of weeks ago, maybe because I probably had particles and holes on the brain (as it were) due to my (recently completed – hurrah!*) project. So I thought I’d share a little of what the world looks like to some of us (or maybe just one of us). The point is that the spaces can be just as physical and teeming with life and meaning as the, er, non-spaces.

    Dear Clifford,

Thanks for the response! Actually, I now see that three papers from you and your student appeared on ArXiv in two months, it seems like ideas are pushing you to typeset them 🙂 Let me wish you new discoveries on this way!

    Best,
    Eduard

    Hi,

It’s worth reading my post about these sorts of issues that I did a few weeks back. (This comment would have been better placed there).

I think that it is early to say where this will all lead to (with regards to feedback into stringy matters), but it has already led to a number of insights. There are certain to be more. right now they’re mostly of a technical nature now (that I won’t trouble you with – things like no-hair theorems and so forth), but who knows where that will lead? (The whole business of AdS/CFT, which broke open in such a remarkable way over the last decade to become such a powerful tool and key player in and shaper of many research programs, started as a mere technical issue in a relative backwater of string theory.)

    Best,

    Concerning your recent activity…
Has the research, being devoted to the problems of CM, helped to improve the understanding of some aspects of stringy physics? It would be interesting if you obtained something as a by-product.
