Snapshot of my doodles done while talking on the phone to a BBC producer about perhaps appearing in a film discussing anti-gravity*. I explained lots of things, including why General Relativity does not seem to like negative mass, partly because they have something called a “naked singularity”, which is a big problem. Only after the call ended did I recall that in 1999 I co-authored a paper in which we discovered a new mechanism for removing such singularities in some cases, using D-branes in string theory. That’ll be a fun thing to try to explain to camera in simple terms. Hmmm….

Thank you Clifford Johnson for paraphrasing my summarizing of Clarke!
Extra credit for getting the enhancon in there (with or without the cedilla). Repulson sounds like it could be a political affiliation (as in, I would never vote for the repulsons). Enhancon could be any number of things, depending on the type of movie.
You’re now tempting me to sneak it into my next science consult meeting with movie people. Which happens to be next week. Hmmmm….. Pity it is not the Star Trek people. Sounds very much like it should be in a line like “fire repulsons three and four!”

The word repulson should definitely enter pop culture.
To quote Arthur C Clarke super-approximately: Any sufficiently advanced bullshit is indistinguishable from bullpucky.
If you say enough things I don’t understand it becomes indistinguishable from bullpuckey.
