This is a photo I borrowed from Dara Norman’s blog post over on NSBP’s Vector. It is about the star party held over at hhe White House in October of this year. It looks like it was a lot of fun! Er, you may recognize one or two of those people at the telescope…

ha! so much fun there;)
I love to see this kind of scientific outreach. In a panel at the Quantum to Cosmos festival called “Do we still believe in science?” http://www.q2cfestival.com/play.php?lecture_id=8015 journalist Natalie Angier mentioned this moment, pointing out that the Obama daughters declared this night to be one of the most exciting nights of their lives. Angier suggested that this kind of event can peak curiosity, promote an amateur interest in science and can “bring people into the world of discovery,” ultimately helping more people understand science.
