Designing Women

While relaxing in a cafe at the end of the day on Friday an interesting woman joined me by emerging from the page under my pencil. The pictures show a few steps: I was not doing any of the more geometric or architectural constructions that I’d been experimenting with in face-building, and instead let the pencil flow loosely and built things up from loose three dimensional forms (lots of eggy shapes of various sizes) that I then merged together and cleaned up. (I added part of a torso, but it was clumsy and hasty and so I will spare you that part of her.) Contrast to the two other approaches here and here. I briefly worked on the finishing touches a bit the next day, with a bit of side-pencil work for half-tone, having decided on the choice of light.
