Huh. Well, it seems that both presidential campaigns have finally got around to answering the questions about science and science policy that the ScienceDebate2008 team prepared a while back. (The team’s banner line on all this is “Who will be the best President for America in a science-dominated world?”. Who indeed. (In case you’re wondering, the “best” was in place when there were several more contenders.)) I hope it is more than just hot air and empty promises. Right now, it’s progress that they took it seriously at all, given what happened earlier in the year.
You can read all about it here*.

(*Thanks Sheril!)
Thanks, IP. The links you gave are all together on the page I gave right at the beginning of the McCain responses and so it seemed unnecessary to give them again here. But thanks.

Elliot: I would have thought most press statements and speeches for the candidates were prepared by staff. But I agree that it would have been better to hear from the candidates directly, perhaps in a debate format.
Clifford: very cool. I’m glad there are finally statements on these issues. Thanks for blogging it.
As you linked only to McCain’s replies, here are Obama’s replies and here’s a side-by-side comparison of the two sets of replies. Just for balance. 😉
Cheers,
IP
I might be wrong but I don’t think McCain or Obama did their own homework here. The answers look like they were prepared by the campaign staff. This is not saying the candidates don’t endorse their respective positions but I would like to hear directly from them on these issues myself.
