Always a big event for me. The first buddleia (or budlea) of the season, in the act of opening up (click for larger):
It should be finished with its grand opening of each of those tiny buds in a few days. I lost one of my healthiest deeper purple varieties to frost (yes, frost) earlier and this is one of the new plants. Healthy, but more over toward pink.
Either way, the butterflies (different varieties from the ones -the Chalcedon Checkerspots– that I showed you yesterday, I think) are going to be very happy about this. And there are several more blooms to come.

Mary, that’s great to hear! I’m sure the gardening will speed along a full recovery!

Our buddleia is now in flower and is actually a very similar shade to your photo! I managed to do some gardening yesterday for the first time since having major surgery three weeks ago. It felt great!
Amara! Those are lovely… Thanks for sharing!

Hi Clifford! How about some pretty flowers from another part of the world ?
I will try…. I don’t really have the right equipment, but I will try to be very still and get close. The checkerspots are apparently known to be more tame than most varieties, and so let me get quite close, so I did not need a long lens….
Best,

I have never seen a buddleia quite this shade before! It’s beautiful. I hope that you will be able to photograph any butterfly visitors and share the pictures with us!
