I learned last week that there’s a new regular item in the New York Times’ science section where Jascha Hoffman does a round up of a few notable Science events, books, etc., around the nation. It is noted this week that Cinefamily starts up its new Science on Screen series (funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation) starting Wednesday night with the excellent film “Primer”. (Photo is from the website.) If you don’t know it, and if you’re in the area, go and see it! As a bonus, you’ll have the writer/director of the film, Shane Carruth, present for introductions and Q&A. He’ll be accompanied by some scientist dude called Clifford V. Johnson who, according to the website, will apparently “give the audience a sweet breakdown of time travel and physics after the screening”. 🙂 (I wonder if he’ll talk about the D-Brane Primer…?)
I must also point out that the other film event mentioned, the “Bestiaire” (a documentary) screening events later in the following week, have a screening of a short called “Primate Cinema: Apes as Family”, which is really good. (Full disclosure: coincidentally, it was made by a friend of mine, Rachel Mayeri.)
Enjoy!
