Orange in Green

orange_in_green

Yesterday I had a hankering for marmalade. Perhaps with bits of ginger in it. Maybe a bit of whisky. On fresh bread.

This collection of navel oranges, sourced at the Hollywood farmer’s market later that lovely morning, will go some of the way to answering the hankering.

Happy MLK Day!

More later.

It’s delicious…. Not sure I can hang on to it that long…I will try. But should I fail, other batches will be made, I imagine…

  3. Save a jar for us! Waiting for the various trees planted last summer to yield something this summer! Figs, pears and apples – alas no citrus. Will be touring the farmers markets over here later on to see what I can find to make some jam and marmalade. Glass jars at the ready! cmj+

Made the fresh bread this morning….Working on the marmalade as I type… The whole place smells wonderful… got to rush back to stir it!

I love being reminded of one of the reasons I love this blog… Great exchanges and sharing like this! 🙂

That had me running to my ‘Joe Pass Guitar Style’ – it has been while and took a bit of thought, but was worth it.

It has been a long time – too long – since I played some of these. Would take me a while to work it all out again. But I still remember the magic of how those chords work together under the hands and the shock of it popping out to the ears and sounding… just… right.

There are some Wayne shorter chord progressions that do that for me too…. like Infant Eyes. I love how he puts the chords together and, at least on piano, it is just amazing how it fits, and hits the ear…

I remember the first moment I learned to play the progression. As you say, played slowly and allowed to breathe, the progression is indeed divine 🙂

Aha! Nicely spotted and imaginatively commented. I was indeed riffing on that title. Isn’t that chord progression, played slowly and allowed to sing out…simply divine?

    🙂

Paul… yes… I have a Meyer lemon tree, but it does not produce a large enough crop for a full batch of lemon marmalade…

So yes, I do know what to do! We should change the saying to:

“When life hands you lemons, make marmalade!”

    Cheers,

Great…! there’ll be a little meyer lemon in here too, but for flavouring, in this case.

  14. In a day or two I’ll be making up a batch of Meyer Lemon marmalade. There’s nothing in this world like it.

You’re the one who lives in California, so forgive me if I’m telling you what you already know… but in my limited CA experience, many people have lemon trees growing in their yards. And often they don’t know what to do with the lemons, so they just let them fall on the ground. Or sometimes they put them in a basket for passers-by to take for free.

But you know what can be done with lemons, I see.
