The picture on the right is a shot from us all merging into an orderly line (not there yet) to emerge from the gate and march to the inauguration of President Max Nikias last Friday. See my previous post for more pictures. (Still looking for video of the highlight for me – the performance of the string quartet that day. Let me know if you find some.)
This Friday, near the very same spot where the Inauguration was, USC will be hosting another President. The one from Washington DC, i.e., USA President, not USC President. President Obama is speaking here at a big student-organized rally.
I’ll be staying away from the Obamamania going on at campus today. Yes, it would be nice to see him, but this is not going to work for me. The streets are shut down, and people are apparently queueing in the rain from since 9:00am today to wait to hear him speak at 2:00pm. Impressive dedication.
Perfect rainy day to sit in the home office and work on The Project all day, and rest a bit from the crazy-busy events of yesterday and before. I’ll write up a quick report or two on those in the coming day or two, time permitting (I’ve to devote the two weekend days to a certain President’s-office-related activity I’ll say no more about. USC President, not USA.)

I’m guessing that the idea was to energize students all over again, nationwide, and perhaps they hoped to get some traction by doing it on a campus and having it broadcast… Also, when this was arranged I guess the Governor’s race was a major concern, and so they thought such a rally could help…
Not sure…

Hmm- might be silly of me, but this time of year is there really much point to campaigning in Los Angeles? ie last I checked I don’t think there’s an immediate chance of the USC campus population swinging Republican 🙂
But then maybe I’m just too used to Ohio politics, where being a swing state dominates all you hear about- we are after all the ones who gave the world Joe the Plumber.
Thankfully, he used a helicopter to get around town this time. When he visited LA in August, my evening commute was a nightmare.
