Lewis Black on set of Root of All EvilWell, Comedy Central fans, here’s something for you. Before you get settled into your nightly dose of the Daily Show on Wednesday night, tune in half an hour earlier, at 10:30 (at least on the coasts). It’s Lewis Black’s new show “Root of All Evil”, this week covering the issue of which of the two prevailing juggernauts in our culture, American Idol or High School, that reduce so much in our culture to popularity contests, is more Evil.

(This one I actually think speaks to a serious point. Sadly, in an presidential election year here, any attempt to parody this sort of thing for comedic effect is totally outshone by almost any news broadcast.)

High School vs. American Idol – Both high school and American Idol feature harsh social criticisms, popularity contests, and shady characters – be it Ryan Seacrest, or the neighborhood creep. But which is more evil – calculus homework, or bad renditions of Aretha Franklin songs aired three times a week? To decide, Patton Oswalt and Andy Kindler go head to head in the court of the honorable judge Lewis Black, the ultimate evaluator of evil.

Comedian Andy Kindler will, in part of his argument that American Idol is the more evil, employ some perhaps familiar (to you at least) faces, including your host. (Assuming they did not edit it heavily!) I mentioned a bit about the shooting of this here and here.

Enjoy.

Yep… they edited it heavily. Seems that my bit was cut from the version that aired. Oh well.

I don’t know if a large portion of this blog’s readers are USC students, but if you live in USC housing, you get the east coast version of Comedy Central, so tune in at 7:30pm.
