This is a scene from a play I just returned from seeing. It is a work in progress by Nancy Keystone (writer/director) and her Critical Mass Performance group. This was at the Diavolo Dance Theater at the Brewery Arts Complex. The name is Apollo (part 3: Liberation) and it is a wonderful blend of science, politics, and civil rights. I’ve been talking with Nancy about the project a bit, and was happy to have contributed to it a little recently by helping (by seeking the advice of JPL’s Jeff Booth) find her a science advisor for the work - Craig Peterson.
I’d like to tell you more, but I’m exhausted, so I will do a more detailed post later. In the scene, they are doing a computation to see how to put a man on the moon… each actor calls out a contributing element of the computation - the elements might surprise you. At the end, they take their pens and treat them as rockets, raising them to the ceiling in unison.
It was wonderful.
