Sunday is the 30th LA Marathon. In celebration of this, giant spotlights were set up at various points along the route (from Dodger stadium all the way out to Santa Monica… roughly a station each mile, I read somewhere) and turned on last night for about an hour between around 9 and 10. I stood on a conveniently placed rooftop and had a go at capturing this. See the picture (click for much larger view). It involved pushing the exposure by about two stops, at based on a “film speed” at the equivalent of 800 iso, on my trusty little canon powershot (SX210). I glued together three photos, with corrections for perspective and some edge distortion. (From my slightly dodgy vantage point I did not notice that the leftmost exposure was a bit blurred, unfortunately, and only took one version of it… but it was still useable for the panorama).
If you look closely you can count along the arc of the route, starting left at Dodger stadium, through East Hollywood roughly at the center, all the way out to the ocean. (I think I can distinguish about 25 of them in the shot…)
Enjoy!

Dreamy?! Thanks Lynell !
You’re very kind…. But it was the other way around for me… I loved being able to look around the sky and see the various spot lights… And wonder where they are located…. Maybe it was akin to a bit of astronomy for me…
It looks cooler in your photo than it did in real life, as far as I’m concerned.
