Saturday morning’s fig harvest.
I think you’ll agree with me that this constitutes an emergency. I need to make some tasty thing or other in order to use these up. I’m thinking of something in the pie department. I have a few ideas of my own, but nothing is blowing my skirt up at this point. Recipe suggestions welcome… So dust off those recipes… Help!

I’m sure this is more than a bit late, but consider oatmeal fig cookies. I recommend spicing with nutmeg and a little bit of mace.

Simply, place n figs and n (veritable) Parma ham slices in a dish. It is the well known ‘prosciutto e fichi’.

Return to classical mechanics and make Fig “Newtons!”
This sounds pretty tasty to me, never heard of it, but yum. Hhehee…
Ingredients:
4 lg. figs, fresh
1/4 lb. Gorgonzola
1/4 lb. Prosciuto, sliced paper thin
Directions:
Peel the figs and slice each lengthwise into 6 spears. Place figs, fleshy side up on a plate or tray. Slice Gorgonzola into 21 even slices. Top each fig spear with a piece of Gorgonzola. Slice prosciutto lengthwise into 1 inch wide ribbons. Wrap each fig around the middle with a ribbon of prosciutto. Secure with toothpicks, if desired. Makes 24.
You could serve them with pepper! Halve the figs, grind (or pour, if you have to) some pepper into a seperate dish. Dob the open face of the fig onto the pepper and chomp away. It sounds odd, but it is quite tasty. I guess it helps if you like pepper.
I agree with Moshe. You should see the plum collection we have, three full shoeboxes worth.
We do the same thing as Moshe’s neighbors, de-pit, slice and freeze. We will not to eat the plums as a snack, but we can still cook with them. Lemons are the real pain, we have to give them away by the grocery bag, and our tree is shorter than I am!

But if you accumulate more than that, you can make jam (generic recipe on the web, as I mentioned way, way too much sugar in those), can them if you have a canner, or make fig preserve. All those take work so you probably want to get a few pounds of figs first.
Something interesting my neighboors are doing with strawberries: chop them up in a blender and freeze them fresh, after a few days there is some variant of a jam which is more fruity and less sweet, but probably does not last as long. Not sure if it works with figs, but it’s worth a try – not as much work as jam, and it tastes better.
Mmmmm I adore fresh figs and those look gorgeous! But I also quite like dried figs…perhaps you could dry them for future enjoyment? Or you could also make fig preserves with a healthy crop like that!
