It was the departmental retreat this weekend, and we all went off on a boat to an island! On the voyage back I decided to practice a little sketching, and found myself surrounded by good subjects, because a lot of people were sitting still during the crossing (it was a small boat). Since the boat was rocking a bit, people were also hanging on quite fast, which helped keep them in fixed positions for longer. Perfect!
Here is one of the graduate students sitting with her back to the ocean, looking forward. I had fun with this, scribbling loosely with pencil at first before choosing final lines with a nice thick number 1 micron pen to contain the shape overall. Process was nice and (relatively) quick. Turned out ok.
