This is is part of Lake Powell, formed from the Colorado river. It is just off route 95 in the state of Utah. It was very tempting to simply stop there and camp. (Click for a larger view.)

On my commute to work I’ve been listening to an audio book of Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mar Trilogy. After Mars is terraformed, they are wandering about the planet camping at beautiful rock formations. If you have time to read it, I’d highly recommend it. The gardening is wonderful, and the rocks are heroic. Your photo reminds me of the inspirations she must’ve had, though her descriptions of Mars are exquisite.
