Nope, I have not disappeared off the face of the earth. Sorry about the long gap between posts, but I got buried in several things such as contributing to the writing of a grant renewal proposal, settling back into Los Angeles (checking that some of my favorite things that you hear about from time to time on his blog, like the downtown art walk, the cafe at Bottega Louie, various other cafes, the Edison, etc, were all present and accounted for), and…. The Project.
Yes, the Project that I mentioned from time to time and, probably annoyingly, declined each time to tell you what it is. Recall from a post I did back in February that I essentially devoted my sabbatical semester, and the Summer that followed, to developing the Project, researching it, investigating the idea, seeing whether it is feasible, and so forth. So, well, I have one week left before I start teaching again (which of course means essentially no weeks, since one must also prepare the teaching – it is a large class) so this means that I have to stop and assess where I am on the whole Project development. This is not just because I ought to write a report on what I did for my sabbatical for my Dean, but because I want to stop and ask myself where I am too, and whether I want to continue witness the whole thing. Was it feasible? Etc. So in aid of all that reporting – to self, and otherwise – I am trying to put some finishing touches on parts of a prototype. (I hope that explains the choice of movie still above.) As demo, as it were. Proof of concept. This has taken up a lot of my time in the last few days, but it has been worth it. I have pulled together a lot of what I’ve been gestating over the last several months and it’s… Encouraging.
Yes, I will tell you about it soon. Really. When it is ready I’ll give you a detailed run down of the development process and so forth in a series of posts, but it is not ready for prime time yet. And especially since I will have to devote a lot of time to other things now that my sabbatical is over, that’ll still take a while.
I hope it is worth the wait.

How funny you post this photo – I captured a few minutes of Iron Man on Sunday night! Have yet to see the whole thing and decide if I want or need a suit! cmj+

Hmmm…are you building a folding version of the IronMan suit? If so, I’ll take two.
