apollo - liberation

This is a scene from a play I just returned from seeing. It is a work in progress by Nancy Keystone (writer/director) and her Critical Mass Performance group. This was at the Diavolo Dance Theater at the Brewery Arts Complex. The name is Apollo (part 3: Liberation) and it is a wonderful blend of science, politics, and civil rights. I’ve been talking with Nancy about the project a bit, and was happy to have contributed to it a little recently by helping (by seeking the advice of JPL’s Jeff Booth) find her a science advisor for the work – Craig Peterson.

I’d like to tell you more, but I’m exhausted, so I will do a more detailed post later. In the scene, they are doing a computation to see how to put a man on the moon… each actor calls out a contributing element of the computation – the elements might surprise you. At the end, they take their pens and treat them as rockets, raising them to the ceiling in unison.

It was wonderful.

what are those things strewn all over the floor? are they marshmallows? Wine corks? I’m sure your More Detailed Post will explain it.
