Well, an hour ago my Electromagnetism class finished the final exam I set them. Hurrah! There was no immediate sign that it was a total disaster, so that’s good news. Except for the matter of producing final grades and such things, this marks the end of the (standard) undergraduate teaching period for me for the academic year. Nothing until late August.
So you are wondering: – What will he do now? Head for the beach? (Well, it is over 90 degrees F outside, after all. The Jacaranda blooms’ arrival (click left for larger) always signal for me the beginning of those intensely relaxed Los Angeles Summer stretches… Hmmmm….)
No, not the beach (well, not entirely). I can ramp up my efforts on a host of physics research projects – ones with my four graduate students and two undergraduates as well as other ones. Dust off some neglected notebooks from some of my more open projects, etc. I can also spend more time on my outreach-type efforts (including fundraising for ASTI, where I can), and I will continue and extend my insane practice of getting involved in projects and collaborations across all sorts of fun disciplinary borders. Yay!
More later!

Hi Jeff…. Ah! Will respond very soon!
I hope all is well.

Hi Clifford,
Good to hear that teaching’s over for you! Speaking of ASTI – did you get my mail(s) regarding visiting Cape Town?
Cheers
Jeff

Okay, NOW I see where an academic career gives a person just barely enough time to do physics. It’s the summers.
