So out of the blue the other day, I got an email with this photograph in it, and an explanation for its appearance. It seems that some old friends from my school days (who I’ve not heard from in a long, long time) were discussing it on Facebook, and one of the people reading the comments who lives near my mum in Preston, the town where I went to school, realized that I was one of the people in the picture…!! Since I am not on Facebook* (despite some misleading pages that sometimes send people astray) he contacted me the old fashioned way via finding my email address on my website. Nice and quaint, the way I like it.
I remember this event, but had no idea a picture was taken! Since it is all over Facebook, I see no harm in putting it up here (also, I asked permission). So there you have it…ma glimpse into my teenage rock star past. Look, we even had groupies!!

Do I see evidence of van Halen style ‘tapping’ here? I always loved that flash stuff (or s**t, as the expurgated young might have it)and Erupted for hours. And, on the few occasions I did so in public, I too felt like a rock star. Bill Wyman, habitant dans le south of France, however, could never be other than a dirty old man.

Robert… maybe you do, for whatever solo/song we were playing that the time (although, as you know, he did not originate that technique)… it was a fun sound to make, but I never really pursued it since it was not very attractive a sound to me musically. I was more of a Brian May man than an Eddie vH man. More music, less flash. (Hope I don’t start a flame war…

Hi Clifford, it HAS been a long time! I too didn’t know this picture existed so it was a very pleasant surprise when it appeared. Mick is threatening an audio clip too – fingers crossed the tape didn’t survive the 30+ years. Anyway, hope you are well and if you’re ever in the UK get in touch.
