Bass Line

A quick sketch during the Winter phase of the LA Phil’s performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, last night, at the Hollywood Bowl.

Why? Well, Mr Double Bass player was more still than Mr. Joshua Bell, over to my left on solo violin…

Three inches tall in my little notebook. Pencil for quick layout then ink with ballpoint pen… (I had to fix the lower left corner in PS, since my drawing ran into the fold…)

Looking at this sketch one can almost hear Saint-Saens’ Elephant. Do any jazzers play the bass perched on a stool?

    Thanks!

Absolutely they should be celebrated! Not the least because they have to carry those things around, but mostly because the sound that they bring to the orchestra is wonderful, and much over-looked.

I think this is rather marvellous, not least because you have chosen to represent a double bass player. These musicians should be celebrated in my opinion!
