Summer Reminder

aspen center for physicsThis always catches people off guard (myself included), so I thought I’d post a little reminder. The deadline for applications to the Summer workshops at the Aspen Center for Physics is January 31st. That’s coming up soon, so to physicists interested in doing a research stay, start thinking about the dates you want to attend, finding funds for support, planning for things like childcare or summer programs for children if you have any, and so on and so forth. There’s a wide variety of excellent programs awaiting your participation – see here.

And start right now the process of breaking in any hiking boots you might be planning to bring to aid in the process of digesting your profound thoughts…

    Supernova! Great!

    Thanks for getting in touch!

Sorry for the comment on a year-old post, but I just submitted my Summer 2012 Aspen application and was happy to see, clicking around the ACP site, that you are listed as the chair of the Committee for Participant Diversity. It’s great to know that ACP has such a thing and that someone I know (at least in the virtual world) is involved! I have been to a winter conference there, but not done a summer stay, so am really looking forward to the possibility.

Thanks! I remembered the deadline, but my trusty old hiking boots just died on me (ripped and no longer waterproof). If I get new ones to start breaking them in, will I jinx my chances of acceptance though? And KITP always has waaaaay earlier deadlines. I always find some workshop there I’d be interested in and realize I’m three months too late to apply, sigh.

Problem is when the snow is high enough to fall into the shoe it’s time for boots, you see.

And yep, someday, but I think my current schedule has me in NZ that then anyway. So until then I’ll just think up my own cool adventures. 🙂

    Hi,

Um… Well if the boots can’t deal with snow, they’re not really proper hiking boots in my book. 😉

Note, by the way, that going to the Aspen Center for a workshop has nothing to do with coolness, per se… All are welcome.. cool or not. It’s about the physics!

But cool people are welcome to come of course, so see you there one day when you’re a postdoc and beyond?

    Best,

Breaking in hiking boots? You realize they’d get soaked in the foot of snow outside right now right?! 😛

Have only gone in winter when the sports are much more interesting to Aspen, but would like to check out the physics summertime as well someday. Maybe in a few years I’ll finally be cool enough to go.
