I’m guessing that the idea was to energize students all over again, nationwide, and perhaps they hoped to get some traction by doing it on a campus and having it broadcast… Also, when this was arranged I guess the Governor’s race was a major concern, and so they thought such a rally could help…

Hmm- might be silly of me, but this time of year is there really much point to campaigning in Los Angeles? ie last I checked I don’t think there’s an immediate chance of the USC campus population swinging Republican

But then maybe I’m just too used to Ohio politics, where being a swing state dominates all you hear about- we are after all the ones who gave the world Joe the Plumber.

Thankfully, he used a helicopter to get around town this time. When he visited LA in August, my evening commute was a nightmare.
