Physics Can Change the World!

colbert lhc obamaLast night, Stephen Colbert suggested that the Large Hadron Collider is responsible for Obama’s victory on Tuesday! When it switched on back in September, it kicked us into an alternative universe in which everything was the same except that McCain’s position in the polls had been eroded, and, well, you know the rest.

(Apparently it also explains the World Series result, but as I know nothing about baseball, I cannot tell if that is really supposed to be an anomaly or not.) Clip here, and item in question is about 2 minutes in.

Hey team, run and cover… he’s on to us!

    Matt,

Thanks. I imagine I could indeed enjoy it in the way you say. Probably the same is true for any organized sport. Once or twice I’ve done that, a long time ago. Maybe I will again one day.

    Best,

Yes, we’re all on to you, you physicist. :). :). Waiting impatiently for the repairs of the Collider. Can you put in a good word 🙂 ?

I think you would like baseball, if you could spare the time. You could pick a team and follow it for a season and see what you think. Maybe you could try your hand at scoring a game.

I recommend the National League as baseball teams are made up of 9 players, not 10.

  4. Tommy says:

A few years ago, when both the Red Sox and Cubs were in the playoffs I was sure that if they both made it, a giant meteor would hit the Earth, right on whichever stadium was hosting Game 1. Thereby preventing the Sox or the Cubs from ever winning another World Series.

  5. Elliot says:

We have not entered an “alternate” baseball universe. For the hundredth year in a row the Chicago Cubs did not win the World Series. Everything is perfectly normal.
