Which only makes one wonder about this story from yesterday:
“Geneva (Switzerland) ?The Large Hadron Collider is just a few days from being switched on, but the scientists in charge of the 17-mile long super collider are already getting impassioned pleas to stop their work, some of the scientists have even received death threats. According to a Telegraph UK article, CERN, the organization that is in charge of the LHC, has been inundated with emails and calls from concerned citizens, part-time scientists and others. James Gillies, CERN’s public relations spokesperson, says many of the people want to delay or stop next week’s test, but there’s no chance of that happening.”

It was also mentioned in “Spiegel Online” this week, the main German online news platform. A friend of mine who has nothing to do with physics was completely excited and has sent me the link. And I am glad to see that an animation my officemate had produced a few years ago made it in the clip (it’s at 2:30, the simulation of the collision of two lead nuclei)

You know, the intro class I’m helping out in gets a song in the morning while everyone comes in (chosen by the prof, I’m impressed at his music collection) and this one was played today. Can’t say I’m the biggest fan, but I suppose it’s obligatory by now.
