Good to hear that this sort of thing isn't restricted to PhD students. I tend to get "sidetracked" alot as well while reading up on the literature. I inevitably stumble on a nice review paper that is only marginally connected to whatever I'm supposed to be doing, leaving me with the feeling that I have a notion of a lot of things but little true understanding. This can get depressing after a while.</description>
