Enjoyed your blog very much! The "bakery" is indeed a wonderful room for both performers and listeners (I will be playing there these summer, July 25 and 26). Regards! Luis

Thanks,

Gumbo Nuveau, Fingerpainting, Dear Louis, and the collaboration with doc Cheatham for some lovely New Orleans old-style classics....

Let me know what you think.

That's a downright poetic description of Nicholas Payton's playing. I'm a brass player myself (not trumpet), so you inspired me to head to Amazon to see what's available.

Perhaps of interest to you: there are a lot of old and rare jazz albums uploaded at the Vinyl Preservation Project which you can stream in real audio. Quality is pretty good through earphones although the scratches are unavoidable.

Count Bassie, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong etc. and lots of other stuff. Jazz fans like yourself might find a few gems there perhaps.

Thanks Moshe, for coming and giving an excellent seminar, and hanging out.

On the photos: Steady hands, steady hands. I do it this way because the colours and lighting are better than (the awful) flashgun, and first and foremost I don't like the idea of disturbing the musicians or members of the audience.

Best,

-cvj

Hi Clifford, thanks for the wonderful hospitality, both Payton and Nate Morgan are good finds for me, and I especially like the great examples of available light photography in this post...
