[...] A quick reminder. The show WIRED Science (that I mentioned earlier) debuts tonight! Notice also that the website with all the extra material is now live (and rather amazingly well designed -well done the New Media division at KCET), and - don’t forget - debuting also (and already live) is the new blog Correlations (I gave you the back story on that here). You can find a link to it from the site, or go directly here (but go look at the main site too). Please go along and say hi to us over there on our welcoming blog posts. And Tell Your Friends! (That includes you, science-oriented bloggers - it’s in a good cause!). [...]

[...] So anyway, the main point of this post was to tell you about one particular thing that came up in our conversation. There’s a whole new project about to be unveiled. It is, and I quote: “Green Lofts, a fascinating eco-renovation of a derelict old factory into stylish live/work units in south Los Angeles.” There’s a description of it on the site, and there’s an open day on Saturday the 13th. From the architectural plans and progress pictures there, I’m itching to go along and have a look. I asked if I might get a preview visit of it, and she said we can probably work it out. (This is especially good since I thing I’ve some wedding celebrations to go to that day.) This is great, since I will try to do an extended blog post on it and report back to you either here or on Correlations, giving you a taste of what there is to be seen in time to remind you and encourage you to go on the open day if you’re in the area. This should be fun - I’ve a number of architect friends who might be interested in this, given their own interests in projects that strive for more sustainability, re-use of materials, and so forth, so I’ll be spreading the word a bit.
Sheril... Nice one.... I'll sheepishly admit that I spent a good half an hour trying to come up with a good movie quote to match yours (that fits the moment). Failed. I must be losing my touch.

I also think it would be nice from time to time to each give our take on one thing or another... we'll see how things develop.

I would like to propose an topic thread for the blog, that could become a monthly, or dare i suggest weekly, activity???

Start with John Muir's adage: <i>"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe,"</i> and, more appropriately, its earlier manifestation as <i>"When we try to pick out anything by itself we find that it is bound fast by a thousand invisible cords that cannot be broken, to everything in the universe "</i>

Select one aspect of some earthly problem (for example bacterial epidemics in relation to increasing ocean temperatures), and encourage each of the bloggers to discuss that aspect from their own scientific landscapes (and yes including string theory-a la Muir). Hopefully such an activity could encourage readers to then propose subsequent questions and problems.

This looks like a lot of fun. Seems like there will be some lively and informed discussions on some critical issues. Also having a blogger in Antarctica may make the Chicago winters more bearable (at least on a relative basis) Definitely looking forward to it.
