Monolith Not Spotted, Yet

Well, maybe on the next flyby. Flyby page here. AP (via Yahoo) story by Alicia Chang here. Interesting extracts:

The international Cassini spacecraft went into safe mode this week after successfully passing over a Saturn moon that was the mysterious destination of a deep-space faring astronaut in Arthur C. Clarke’s novel “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

..and intriguingly:

Cassini flew within 1,000 miles of Iapetus on Monday and snapped images of its rugged, two-toned surface. As it was sending data back to Earth, it was hit by a cosmic ray that caused a power switch to trip.

Cosmic Ray. Right…

I’m not sure I want to believe that, Dave.

… 😉

  1. Carl Brannen says:

If you listen to late night spooky talk radio, Iapetus is a frequent topic of the “face on Mars” people. Hey, they don’t look like buildings (or faces) to me. I wonder what they’ll do with the new photos. What I’m waiting for is a polished monolithic brick shaped object.
