Contra dancing is from the French word for Country, but has nothing to do with, for example, Country Music. Many Contra dance bands have interesting names. For example, Contra Intelligence, Contrarywise, <a href="http://www.thestringbeings.com/" rel="nofollow">The String Beings</a>, etc. The organisation in southeast Michigan for this stuff if <a href="http://www.aactmad.org/cal/allevents.html" rel="nofollow">AACTMAD</a>.
