[...] Anyway, even though I’m in the middle of jam-making, I’m able to type and tell you all this because I’m at that stage where it’s left to its own devices to simmer. Every now and again I check it, stir, and skim any surface accumulation. I told you all about how I do this about a year ago in a blog post, and so you can read the details there, with pictures. I’ll update this post with a few snaps (perhaps) a bit later. [...]

Thanks cvj for the great suggestion of fig jam! It looks and sounds mouth watering. You know, I had to use your fig picture on my site because when I googled "fig picture" yours was the best. Lovely fig with a lovely hand. I hope you don't mind. Good site.

[...] Well, I don’t need to do one of my long cooking posts about this just yet, since the Lab Lemming is concerned about these issues too, I noticed, and has gone to the trouble of preparing what looks like a careful study of the process (including the pitfalls) just in time for the beginning of the primary pie-making season (Thanksgiving, etc…). Here’s a phase diagram from that discussion, which made me laugh quite a bit: [...]

Hey Clifford, once again my first thought is how envious I am...did you try adding some anise flavor? the easiest is to add tiny bit of ouzo to it, it taked about half a teaspoon or so for the amount you described, and then in addition to lovely jam you get to have a whole bottle of ouzo, which is never a bad thing.

Hi! I hear you, but I simply don't eat that much of anything in one sitting. And I love cooking....so why not?

re: the IE browser issue- I changed nothing. This is why I am having difficulty diagnosing the problem. I recommend use of "reload" if it reappears. I'll try to review the issue one day....

Thanks,

I appreciate the effort, but to me that's really an elaborate desacration. A fig could never survive long enough around me to be jammed or otherwise prepared -- it would be gone, eaten raw, along with all its friends! Indigestion? So be it. A small price to pay for such delicacies.

On a side note, your margins suddenly look OK in IE! Did you do something to the template or is it all the pictures having some beneficial side effect?

Scones!! Yes!! Another very quick -make 'em on the spot- recipe are Southern-style biscuits. In 20-25 minutes, you can whip up a batch and have them hot and ready to smear jam on and munch on. A source? If you don't have Jessica B. Harris' "The Welcome Table", drop what you're doing and rush out and get it now. For all sorts of cooking from the region with very very workable and reliable recipes.

Scones, to answer the "how about you?"

So, we need a list of good scone recipes. The Joy of Cooking's cream based ones are ok, the "regular" ones are ho-hum.

Well, I suppose I could do one of my bread-making sessions..... but not for a while. These picture-heavy culinary posts take a long time to prepare....

There's a place not far away that does pretty good New York style bagels. They are usually my standard breakfast item upon which I have jam, cream cheese, etc.

How about you?
