Those really are quite lovely! =)

To the great sorrow of my mother, we never had roses when I was growing up thanks to the numerous deer who lived in our area. As a result of that, I always view their existance as nothing less than a miracle (the same goes for tulips and all the other things the deer were fond of nibbling on).

Among the few things i miss, when i retired and moved from CA to the Northwest, are my roses. I grew up with roses (my mother would punish us for misbehaving by sending my brother and i into her huge rose garden to weed–30 rose bushes), and though avoiding them for 30+ years, i became happily reacquainted with them fifteen years ago. I realized very quickly that my childhood years had provided me with a great deal of knowledge about growing and caring for roses. The colors above remind me of this recent period in my life; remind me that roses are really quite informing.

One of the things i did was name each bush/shrub for a person i knew well. That way, i could focus some morning and/or evening mediation time not only on the rose but also on the well being of the person. When i sold the house and moved away i had returned the rose garden to an organic holistic state that was filled with life and color. Damn i do miss that.
