[...] This is good to hear about. Recall earlier that I was wondering aloud whether there was anything in the UK that is equivalent to the USA’s Union of Concerned Scientists, or the recently formed Scientists and Engineers for America. (See earlier posts here and here, for example.) This is not really an equivalent organization (they consult with scientists, rather than being a scientist-run organisation for example, and they seem relatively disconnected from the makers of public policy, where a lot of the real battles are to be fought), but they are at least swimming in the same waters.
[...] I’ve previously mentioned examples of the manipulation or supression of scientific information by organisations such as the Bush Administration. See for example a recent post on hurricanes and global warming. Various scientists have made it their business to speak out against these types of wrongs, either as individuals in the line of fire, as individuals noticing it in the news and blogging about it to as many as care to read, and as part of organisations here and abroad.
Blogging on the same topic, folks over at http://scienceandreason.blogspot.com/ have given a nice list of recent news articles on global warming. So would mere news articles able to galvanize any change in the desired direction?

This is all so confusing. I don't know whether to be an ostrich and stick my head in the sand, or sit with the three monkeys and try to cover my eyes, ears, and mouth all at once. Is there a special mantra our government would like us to practice, something like: "the war is a comma, the planet is just fine, gas prices will come down, the elections will not be rigged."
