[...] Speaking of fresh produce, some of you are probably wondering how the garden is doing. I’ve not seen it for a long time. I told you about the fig tree, but not of other things. [...]

They're delicious! There's an added guily pleasure to that twinge you get when biting into any fresh soft fruit: In addition to it feeling a little like biting into live flesh (er,...I imagine!), it sort of looks like that on the inside too!

Once you've had one, you'll never go back!

I am playing around with Figs sauteed with Broiled Chicken and garlic in a Spanish/Mexican style dish over whole wheat cous-cous with sofritto.

As soon as I get it right I'll pass along the recipe. It's still not exactly there yet.

I recall seeing quite a flourishing one in Durham, England, last year, and so it is possible quite, it would seem.

That's right Clifford, another success story in our continuing effort to corrupt the young and suggestible...

I'd like to finally visit now that I am on the west coast again, let's talk privately, I am scheduled to spend January in SB so maybe that is a natural time.

As for the figs, surprising to me there are quite a few trees in town, one would think the weather is not quite right for them, but they don't seem to mind.

If you come and visit to give us a seminar early in the semester, maybe there'll be some figs for you to try....

I hope the Summer school went well? Lots of new young minds led from the straight and narrow into studying string theory?

Actually, I think that the Anise would be an excellent touch?

Nice idea.

Oh, how I envy you, figs make excellent jam if you have too many, just follow any generic jam recipe (generically those need the amount of sugar in them quartered, in fact I used to make perfectly delicious fig jams with no additional sugar at all). For some reason I am used to fig jams having a touch of anise in it, but that is an acquired taste I'm sure.
